Michigan Fibershed | Dexter, MI
The Team: Michigan Fibershed is a community-based organization committed to developing a regenerative circular natural fiber textile economy in Michigan. Their work helps to foster connections, remove barriers, and advocate for policies that support Michigan’s fibershed: a geographic region where natural fibers (e.g., wool, flax, hemp, and cotton) are grown, processed, dyed, manufactured, and recycled, creating a soil-to-soil system. Through workshops, community meetings, and events, Michigan Fibershed promotes material recovery/upcycling and develops sustainable fiber supply chains.
NextCycle Michigan Project: The team aims to create a regenerative circular natural fiber textile economy in Michigan, focusing on sustainable practices using locally grown feedstocks like wool, flax, and hemp. During the NextCycle Michigan program, the team will work to develop a pilot program, build local natural fiber supply chains, connect with partners, and identify funding pathways needed to scale operations.
