Recycle Ann Arbor | Ann Arbor, MI
The Team: Recycle Ann Arbor (RAA), incorporated in 1977, is a non-profit organization based in Ann Arbor, Michigan and is a subsidiary of the Ecology Center. RAA operates reuse, recycling, and zero-waste programs within the community including a drop-off recycling center, a curbside recycling program, and a zero-waste material recovery facility.
NextCycle Michigan Project: RAA seeks to model Michigan’s first stand-alone (non-retail) container redemption center at its Drop-Off Station in Ann Arbor. The location will feature bulk redemption of eligible bottles and cans in bags and a refillable bottle system supporting local dairies and microbreweries. The data from this project can be utilized to study the impact and for replication across the state. During NextCycle Michigan, the team will work with coaches to connect with potential partners and funding sources, analyze data, and develop marketing materials. This project will divert materials from landfills, create jobs, and once replicated, increase access to recycling – including access for underserved communities.
