Diverting scrap textiles from landfills to manufacture energy-efficient building insulation material

RIT 2021 Showcase Judge’s Award and People’s Choice

NexTiles is a growing start-up developing building insulation material from recycled automotive manufacturing waste. The project team is currently in the process of having the insulation product tested in a lab for safety and performance results. The goal is to bring the product to market by the end of 2022. During the NextCycle program, the team connected with partners furthered their business model and strengthened their in-person pitching skills. NexTiles founder, Madeline Miller, won the RIT Showcase Judges' Award and People's Choice. The team has a potential partnership with Goodwill Greenworks for recycling their post-consumer textiles. however, they are looking for equipment funding to acquire a textile shredding machine. Future plans include exploring other feedstock streams like other automotive materials, carpet, and textile waste.
