Novak Applied Technologies | Midland, MI
The Team: Novak Applied Technologies is a for-profit manufacturer, based in Midland, Michigan, focused on creating products from recycled materials. In 2023, working with Midland Recyclers, the company recycled 57,000 lbs of glass from Midland County and turned it into Pure Premium Cat Litter. The process returns the glass to beach sand – so it is safe for declawed cats! They also created four mediums of blasting aggregate from the recycled glass and are working on additional products.
NextCycle Michigan Project: This team is seeking to create an additional collection point and further develop end-market use for recycled glass. Currently, the recycled glass is collected and processed on-site in Midland by partner Midland Recyclers. This team will work with coaches to identify additional project partners, locate feedstock, understand regulatory/permitting issues, and connect with potential funding sources. This project will divert materials from landfills, create jobs, and increase recycling access for central and northern areas in Michigan’s lower peninsula.
