Let Us R.E.S.T. | BEnton Harbor, MI
The Team: Let Us R.E.S.T. (Respect Each Other and Stand Together) is a non-profit organization based in Benton Harbor, Michigan, aimed at strengthening community trust and cohesion, improving the overall quality of life, and fostering a safer and stronger community for all. The group has organized events to improve literacy, hosted recycling events to support environmental sustainability, and provided support to other organizations to amplify their impact.
NextCycle Michigan Project: The team is seeking to run a pilot to prove the effectiveness of a mobile recycling unit that will travel from community to community offering a convenient drop-off point for recycling aluminum cans, paper/cardboard, and plastics. The mobile unit will then take the recyclables to a processing facility. During NextCycle Michigan the team will work with coaches to understand regulatory/permitting issues, develop a business plan, identify an ideal location for the project, and connect with potential investors or funding sources. This project will divert materials from landfills, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and increase access to recycling including underserved communities.
