Pontiac Regional Chamber & Partners | Pontiac, MI

The Team: The Pontiac Regional Chamber advocates to improve Pontiac’s economic competitiveness by supporting pro-business initiatives with government representatives, providing opportunities for businesses to network and expand their prospect base, offering education workshops, celebrating member milestones, developing a talent pipeline, and referring individuals looking for businesses and services. This team is a collaboration of several partners including the Pontiac Regional Chamber, the Robert Davis Law Firm, the Oakland County Department of Economic Development and Community Affairs, Essential Recycling, and GFL Environmental.

NextCycle Michigan Project: The local city government of Pontiac and regional neighboring communities seek to develop a regional recycling drop-off center allowing residents and businesses of Northern Oakland County to recycle traditional materials (e.g., paper, cardboard, glass, plastic, and steel/aluminum) as well as more challenging materials like appliances, mattresses, polystyrene foam, and textiles. The team utilized the NextCycle Michigan-Economic Development Association (EDA) Build to Scale technical assistance program to identify a site, develop a conceptual site plan, engage with the regional communities, and develop an approach to move forward. During the NextCycle Michigan I2P3 track, the team is looking to scope an operating model and structure, confirm services to be offered, develop an implementation timeline and budget, outline intergovernmental commitments and agreements, and identify funding pathways. This project will divert materials from landfills, reduce litter/pollution, expand access to recycling for historically underserved communities, and create jobs.
