Michigan Chemistry Council

The Michigan Chemistry Council (MCC) represents companies in the chemical manufacturing and distribution sector in Michigan. 96% of all manufactured goods are directly touched by the business of chemistry, and Michigan is particularly one of the leading states for plastics industry jobs. MCC members and allied organizations are working to support sustainable materials management and the development of a circular economy in Michigan.

The industry has set nationwide goals to reuse, recycle or recover 100% of plastic packaging by 2040. These goals will require value chain engagement, consumer engagement and expansion of recycling access, increased collection and sortation capability, and expanded end markets. One specific tool is the development of innovations like advanced recycling technologies, which convert post-use plastics into plastic and chemical feedstocks and the building blocks for new materials.
