Rogers City & Presque Isle County | Rogers City, MI
The Team: Rogers City, with a population of approximately 2,800 people, is located in Presque Isle County on the northeastern shore (Lake Huron) of Michigan’s lower peninsula. The city is collaborating with Presque Isle County, which boasts a population of almost 13,000 people.
NextCycle Michigan Project: This collaborative team seeks to identify ways to improve upon recycling at the drop-off center by increasing the frequency and reach of household hazardous waste, tire, and e-waste collection, increasing items that are collected and recycled, and increasing the frequency of cardboard, glass, and plastic hauling. Additionally, there may be opportunities to partner with neighboring Alpena County, which is beginning construction on a large regional recycling facility. During NextCycle Michigan, the team will work with coaches to evaluate data, explore intergovernmental agreements, improve community education and engagement, connect with additional partners, and identify potential funding pathways. This project will divert materials from landfills, reduce litter/pollution, and offer services that can attract new visitors and residents.
